Try God Group August elections—
service position descriptions


Elections are held during the August Try God Group business meeting. It's suggested that all home group members attend and participate in service to the group.

Responsibility Declaration "I am responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there. And for that: I am responsible."


GROUP LEVEL POSITIONS

TREASURER  
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Responsible for all TGG 7th Tradition collections & disbursements.  Coordinates with secretaries to collect contributions when not present.  Maintains accurate accounting of checkbook and bank account.  Receives bank statements at home.  Makes distributions to GSO, Oregon Are, EVI and District as well as pays rent.  Collects money for literature sales and reimburses members who buy literature.  Reimburses for refreshments, GSR travel, etc.  Produces financial statement for monthly business meeting and reports on prudent reserve.

GRAPEVINE REP
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Manages Grapevine subscription for all meetings by receiving issues at home and distributing them to the applicable meetings.  It’s particularly important to get it to the Sunday Grapevine Meeting promptly.  Starts up the one-year subscriptions right after elections.  Assists members with information on subscriptions.

GSR REP
Two-year Term (Sep – Aug)
Attends quarterly assemblies around Oregon, presents news & motions for the group to consider at the business meetings.  Coordinates with the Alternate GSR Rep, produces written report for the business meeting.  Maintains receipts for reimbursement of expenses.

GSR ALTERNATE REP
Two-year Term (Sep – Aug)
Same job description as GSR but serves when rep is unavailable.
Sobriety req. 1 year

EVI REP
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Responsible for attending monthly EVI meetings, takes notes and communicates the TGG conscious by voting at EVI business meetings.
Sobriety req. 6 months

ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR(S) Two positions.
Staggered One-Year Terms (1 position Sept-Aug and 1 position Mar-Feb)*

Coordinates fun activities for the group and ensures rule 62 is strictly enforced and followed to the letter!  It’s not the quantity of the events, it’s the quality.

*The idea is that one is an alternate who graduates to the main position in February, at which time another alternate is elected.  The first alternate gets to organize the Picnic in August and actually has a one-year term. 

DIVERTER COORDINATOR
Six-month Term (Sep - Feb)
Coordinates TGG members for taking the E.V.I. diverter calls on Tuesday Night and Wednesday morning from 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, by bringing the diverter sign-up calendar to all Business meetings and attending other meetings with the calendar.  Home group members with 6 months por more sobriety are expected to assist coordinator by volunteering for shifts.  Coordinator will remind volunteers of their time commitment via email or phone calls or both. If the calendar is not filled, Coordinator will need to step in and bring attention to the group that there are vacancies not being filled.

DIVERTER COORDINATOR ALTERNATE
Six-Month Term (Sept-Feb & Mar-Aug)
Assists Diverter Coordinatoras needed, or when coordinator is unavailable.
One-year sobriety req.

HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS (H&I) REP
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Responsible for attending the EVI H&I meetings on the last Wednesday of each month at 6 pm in the EVI office, and supporting the H&I committee with service work.
Sobriety req. 1 year

H&I ALTERNATE
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Same job as above, steps in when rep is not available.
Sobriety req. 6 months

WEBMASTER
One-Year Term (Sep–Aug)
Maintains the trygodgroup.com website with TGG meeting schedule including definitions of meetings,  TGG Business meeting minutes, inventory minutes and activity information.

WEBMASTER ALTERNATE
One-Year Term (Sep–Aug)*
Assists the webmaster, then transitions to webmaster after one year.
Sobriety req. 6 months

* Kind of a two-year term when you consider the transition to full-blown Webmaster next year.

PHONE LIST COORDINATOR
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Updates group phone list at each business meeting, adding and deleting members as appropriate. Make and distributes copies of the list to meeting secretaries.

Duties include opening the meeting, checking room layout, finding a chairperson and collecting the 7th tradition for the Treasurer.  Update the reading list for the incoming Secretary.  As a voting member of the Steering Committee, must attend those meetings, also.

Six month Term (Sep – Feb)
Maintains stock of big books and other literature, including pamphlets. Sets up and takes down literature at each Sunday meeting.

SUNDAY NIGHT REFRESHMENTS
Six month Term (Sep- Feb)
Responsible for purchasing & preparing refreshments.  Coordinates with treasurer for reimbursement, purchases & replaces necessary equipment when needed.

MONDAY NIGHT SECRETARY
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Duties include opening the meeting, checking room layout, finding a chairperson and collecting the 7th tradition for the Treasurer. As a voting member of the Steering Committee, must attend those meetings, also.

MONDAY NIGHT LITERATURE
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Maintains stock of big books and other literature, including pamphlets.  Sets up and takes down literature at each Monday meeting.
Sobriety req. 6 months

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SECRETARY
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Duties include opening the meeting, checking room layout, finding a chairperson (in advance), collecting the 7th tradition for the Treasurer, coordinating chips, cleaning up after the meeting, closing the church, taking garbage home. As a voting member of the Steering Committee, must attend those meetings, also.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT LITERATURE
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Maintains stock of big books and other literature, including pamphlets.  Sets up and takes down literature at each Monday meeting.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SET UP
Six-month Term (Sep - Feb)
Responsible for set up and take down of chairs.  Responsible for purchasing refreshments, making coffee, tea etc.  Also, helping the Secretary clean up after the meeting.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT GREETERS
Six-month term (Sep - Feb)
Responsible for welcoming every person who comes through the door at the start of the Wednesday meeting; from 6:40 to 7:00 pm.  Two positions.
No sobriety requirement

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SMOKING MONITOR
Six-month term (Sep - Feb)
Responsible for keeping smokers clear of the church doorway, and for cleaning up cigarette debris after meeting is over.
No sobriety requirement

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SPONSORSHIP REPS
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Responsible for preparing newcomer packets and answering any questions on sponsorship that arise from attendees.  If an attendee requests a sponsor, the sponsorship chair shall introduce them to home group members who are willing to sponsor.   Two positions (1 male, 1 female).
Sobriety req. 2 years, be available after meeting and be working with a sponsor

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BEGINNERS MEETING SECRETARY
One-Year Term (Sep- Aug)
Responsible for finding 2  panelists for each meeting (1 man/1woman if possible, with 1-5 years of sobriety and one with six plus years of sobriety), setting up, literature and collecting the seventhth tradition. This secretary will also chair the meeting as per the meeting format, choosing topics if necessary.

THURSDAY NIGHT SECRETARY
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Duties include opening the meeting, checking room layout, finding a chairperson and collecting the 7th tradition for the Treasurer.  Also responsible for literature. As a voting member of the Steering Committee, must attend those meetings, also.

THURSDAY NIGHT GREETER (2 positions)
Six-Month Term (Sep-Feb)

Responsible for welcoming every person who comes through the door prior to the start of the meeting (6:40-7:00pm).
No sobriety req.

THURSDAY NIGHT REFRESHMENTS
Six month Term (Sep-Feb)
Responsible for purchasing & preparing refreshments.  Coordinates with treasurer for reimbursement, purchases & replaces necessary equipment when needed.

FRIDAY NIGHT SECRETARY
One-Year Term (Sep – Aug)
Responsible for opening room, schedule speakers in advance, finding volunteers to lead meeting and do readings.  Secretary also keeps track of time including asking speakers to “wrap it up”, gives AA announcements and asks for other AA announcements.  Announces birthdays.  Collects the 7th tradition for the treasurer, secures church by checking all rooms for people and locking up church after the meeting. As a voting member of the Steering Committee, must attend those meetings, also.

FRIDAY NIGHT LITERATURE
Six-month Term (Sep - Feb)
Maintains stock of big books and other literature, including pamphlets.  Sets up and takes down literature at each Friday meeting.

FRIDAY NIGHT REFRESHMENT AND
BIRTHDAY COORDINATOR
(2 positions)
Six-Month Term (Sep-Feb)

Responsible for purchasing and preparing refreshments.  Coordinates with treasurer for reimbursement, purchases and replaces necessary equipment when needed. Birthday coordinator buys cupcakes, candles and prepares birthday cards (on clipboard) for AA birthdays.

FRIDAY NIGHT SET UP
Six-month Term (Sep - Feb)
Responsible for set up and take down of chairs, table, podium, plaque, etc.  Coordinates clean up after the meeting.

FRIDAY NIGHT GREETERS
Six-month Term (Sep - Feb)
Responsible for welcoming every person who comes through the door at the start of the Friday meeting. From 7:40 to 8:00 pm.  Two positions.
No sobriety requirement
